- „He was the greatest Song wielder I have ever known. His true power, however, lay in his ability to unite and lead so many diverse people and factions.”
- — Thalleous, telling Senn about Achillean Nestoris↑
Achillean Nestoris, also known as Tidesinger, was a young Nestoris Ardoni, who fought in and helped end the Great War. He was killed by Ingressus Voltaris during the Second Great War. He was Ingressus Voltaris's closest friend before the Great War, and his greatest enemy ever since.
Biography
Before the Great War
Achillean was a fisher when he rescued Ingressus Voltaris (the yet-to-be Deathsinger) from the sea. He brought Ingressus to Master Aegus Nestoris, who initiated Ingressus to the Nestoris clan. Achillean taught him to fish for a living, and Ingressus reciprocated by teaching Achillean to fight and wield Songs. After the Nether invasion, Achillean suggested Ingressus to compete in the tournament to become Champion and vindicate the Voltaris clan. After the masters refused to give Ingressus the Prime Songs (which he should have received after winning the tournament) he killed the masters of the Kaltaris, Sendaris and Mendoris clans, but Achillean attacked Ingressus while Ingressus was raiding the Nestoris village, causing Ingressus to flee.
The Great War
During the Great War, when the alliance between the Nether Army and the Voltaris was unable to be stopped by the alliance of Ardoni, Humans, Magnorites, Felinas and Enderknights, Achillean rose up and turned the tide of the conflict, hence his nickname: Tidesinger. He was able to unite and lead the alliance and its diverse peoples to victory. His epithet was further enforced when he fought back the Nether, causing it to retreat. He and the alliance fought the Voltaris near Mount Velgrin. He fought the Deathsinger alone and was thrown off a cliff, although he survived. He then traveled through a portal to the future to follow the Deathsinger, which caused his Songs to disconnect from him and stay in the past. Because of this, most people thought he had died, as the Walls of Time reported until about 150 years from the end of the Great War. The alleged death of the Deathsinger effectively ended the Great War, enabling the redistribution of the Prime Songs among the clans. Many years after the War, Achillean has become a legend and was remembered as the greatest Song wielder.
Between the Great Wars
Following the Deathsinger through the portal, the Tidesinger snuck away and watched the Voltaris, tracking them until he ran into the Knights of Ardonia after Ingressus raided The Vault and took the Supporium Prime Song being held there, leading to his new appearance in the present. Officially joining the group (led by young Ardoni fighter Ria Sendaris) shortly after that, he accompanies them to Crown Peak to retrieve the Mobilium Prime, which Senn had witnessed being given to Sulliman by Thalleous Sendaris before the war. However, he found that the Prime had already been taken by Ingressus. He and Achillean fought shortly, but Achillean ultimately managed to flee thanks to Queen Abbigail's help.
Second Great War
After the Nether invasion, Achillean continued to be part of the Knights of Ardonia and fought with them in some battles, namely in Meridian, Felden and Gale Point. Here, having resolved to kill the Deathsinger if he could, Achillean confronted him for the last time. However, once again he was defeated. Before Achillean's death, the Knights of Ardonia planned on him wielding the Prime Songs against the Deathsinger, as his skill with the Primes, and ability to match the Deathsinger who was using 3 prime songs, allowed for a good chance that he could finally defeat Ingressus. But following his demise, they decided that Ria Sendaris would take his place, this decision was met with doubts however, given the enormous skill gap between the greatest warrior aside from the Deathsinger and Ria, who had yet to prove herself, added to the fact that in the very possible event the Deathsinger killed Ria, he would gain all the Prime Songs.
Final Resting Place
Achillean's body would be burned (cremated) on a small makeshift funeral pyre by Ingressus as a means of respect, and using Voltar, he would light a stone with Achillean's markings on it, marking his final resting place to be at Northwind on a snowy beach.
Legacy
Achillean would forever be fondly remembered in Ardoni history as the one who helped end the Great War, heroically dying aiding the Knights of Ardonia in the Second Great War. He would be seen as the Deathsinger's anti-thesis in the Great War, and regarded as a powerful hero, and good friend. Even the Deathsinger chose to honor his legacy as they shared a long history together, giving Achillean a proper resting instead of allowing his body to be possibly desecrated by the other Voltaris.
Appearances
Episode 1
During the prologue, Achillean is seen at the tournament, looking sad as Ingressus reveals himself. He's later seen with Aegus while leaving Nestoria. During the Great War he's seen using his Aggrobeam Song, shooting a laser at skeletons. He's mentioned to have died during the war.
Episode 5
Thalleous mentions that nobody really knows what happened to Achillean during his fight at Mt. Velgrin, but his Songs were found, meaning that he had probably died. He says that he had fought with Achillean on occasions, and he was the best Song wielder he'd ever known.
Episode 10
During the battle at Mt. Velgrin, a portal can be seen opening on the past, during the actual battle. He is seen fighting the Deathsinger. Achillean even seems to land a hit with his staff in the early scenes of the battle, but didn't seem to inflict much damage. He is extremely skilled with his weapon of choice and even seems to outmatch the Deathsinger in terms of endurance, as he is seen to not even breathe heavily or show any sign of tireness. They both seemed evenly matched up until now, but after Ingressus tells Achillean that he will return when Achillean is no longer there and Ardonia is too weak to stop him. Ingressus then uses the extent of his abilities and the Prime Songs, and Achillean is defeated after the Deathsinger delivers his final blow, exhausting him in the process. Achillean falls of a cliff but he does not die from the fall. In the end-credits scene, he's seen getting back up the cliff.
Episode 15
Achillean appears at the end of Episode 15, wishing the join the Knights of Ardonia after following Ingressus through the portal.
Episode 16
Achillean asks about the Prime Songs, and is saddened by Thalleous's death. Senn explains that he accompanied Thalleous to hide the Mobilium Prime in Crown Peak, so Achillean leads the Knights there to reclaim it before Ingressus. On the journey, Achillean also reveals how he was only a fisherman for Nestoria before the Great War.
Episode 17
The Knights of Ardonia arrive in Ataraxia, where Achillean is introduced to Galleous.
Episode 19
The Knights of Ardonia finally arrive at Crown Peak during Abbigail and Allister's battle for the throne. He and Senn rush into the city despite the dragon-mounted battle. Achillean accompanies Senn into Sulliman's house, where they found that Ingressus had already arrived and taken the Mobilium Prime. Ingressus then uses a Song to blast both Achillean and Senn out the window. They fight until the newly-crowned Abbigail arrives on Luna's back to fight the Deathsinger and the Angel of Death. Luna picks up Achillean and Senn to save them.
Episode 20
The Knights of Ardonia reconvene at Ataraxia with Galleous. Achillean explains that he knows a powerful potential ally, and leaves with the Knights to summon the ally with a beacon on a mountain. The ally takes a while to appear, but eventually arrives, revealing himself as Herobrine.
Episode 21
Achillean organizes the Knights' liberation of Meridian in order to unite K'arthen and Cydonia, in order to lead the revolution against the Nether's conquest.
Episode 22
In the battle, Achillean sends a messenger bird to Felden to bring about a stronger revolution, as Skorch simultaneously travels to Felora.
Episode 23
Achillean also accompanies the Knights to the unsuccessful liberation of Felora.
Episode 24
Following Galleous's death, the Knights of Ardonia regroup at Ataraxia. When posed the question of if he will wield all four Prime Songs against the Deathsinger, Achillean reluctantly admits that he will do that if he must to stop him.
Episode 25
Achillean accompanies Senn, Ria, Hubris, Abbigail, Luna, Denny, Thunderdome and Grek to Gale Point to reclaim the Aggressium Prime. They wait out the storm in a Glacian's home in Gale Point, where the Glacian reminds him that the Voltaris clan lived peacefully among the Ardoni for a long time. The Deathsinger arrives with some of the Nether forces, and Achillean dies in single combat against him. His death would be one of the worst points for the Knights of Ardonia, alongside the death of many other allies in Gale Point. "Silence follows as they look around. Only Ria, Hubris, Grek, Grim, and Val are present, and no one wants to admit how much they lost." Having lost the one who would wield the prime songs against Ingressus, and the de-facto leader of the Knights of Ardonia was a critical blow to their group, considering next in line was Ria Sendaris, who inspired much less hope in the eyes of her allies than the legendary Tidesinger, to the point where a vote on whether she should wield the Prime Songs was nearly evenly split.
Episode 30
Shows in a flashback of the Deathsinger holding Achillean's body, saddened at the realization of what he did. Cuts to a scene of his body being burned (cremated) at a Northwind pier with the Deathsinger as the sole mourner. This is likely due to the Tidesinger's allies having been forced to flee from battle and leave his body, and Deathsinger not wanting it to be desecrated by his own allies who did not share the same relationship with Achillean as he did. As a mark of respect, Deathsinger uses the Voltar, one of the 5 staffs of the clan masters to light a gravestone for Achillean with his markings so they may shine forever.
Personality
Though not much is known about Achillean, he seems to have a humble personality, since he rejects the possibility that he would ever wield all the Prime Songs all to himself, as the combined power of the Prime Songs should not be wielded. However, this is perhaps not as credible as believed, as in the script, Deathsinger himself had noble intentions and even outright stated they should be locked away forever until he came into contact with the Songs. It is possible even Achillean would not be completely immune to their effects. It can also not be ignored though, that it is almost certain that Achillean at some point would have been offered to be the champion and wield the Aggressium Prime in the Great War and refused, as well as being hesitant to wield the Primes against Ingressus, but under the circumstances, caving. Achillean is a firm believer that such power of all 4 Primes should never be given to anyone, but eventually decided that such measures had to be taken in order to finally finish the Deathsinger. Achillean is noble, humble and compassionate, but as a child, held the prejudice that almost all Ardoni have that the Voltaris are dangerous. Upon meeting Ingressus, he hinted that he was all for killing Ingressus and was cold to him (although Ingressus likely didn't pick up on this, having been raised where he probably never learned the social cues that indicate this), even going so far as to reach for a fishing knife either to attack or prepare to defend himself against Ingressus. However, as time grew, Achillean grew as sympathetic towards the Voltaris as Aegus was, even giving Ingressus the idea of how to repair the bond between the clans through entering the tournament. It can be inferred that despite the atrocities committed, Achillean's opinions of giving anyone a chance, Voltaris or not never wavered, due to his special upbringing with a Voltaris and a Voltaris-sympathetic master.
Powers and Abilities
Achillean, as an Ardoni, is capable of wielding Songs. In this field he is particularly skilled, and is referred to by Thalleous as "the greatest song-wielder he's ever known". He is also quite skilled in combat. In particular, he shows to have an extreme level of endurance (as in the fight against the Deathsinger, contrary to the latter, he doesn't get tired), and to be very maneuverable, as he dodges the attacks of the Deathsinger with ease and parries the attacks of the Deathsinger with precision and without much drawback. However, he is slightly under the Deathsinger's level although the difference is extremely slight, given at how prolonged their fights could be (the difference between the Tide and Death Singer in combat is most likely even less than that of Tygren and Thalleous). However, given that both times he faced the Deathsinger within the story and was overwhelmed, it can be assumed he is slightly less talented than Ingressus. This puts him about on par with Pythus, who was also a match, but not enough to defeat the Deathsinger.
